The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Thursday expressed its hope that the transitional government would announce an election roadmap after exhausting necessary state reforms.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this after meeting the chief adviser to the interim government, Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus, at the state guest house Jamuna in the afternoon.
"We have had a very fruitful discussion with the chief adviser. We cordially discussed a range of issues," he told the media.
Mr Fakhrul said the interim government would announce the roadmap for the next general election after completing all necessary reforms.
BNP believes that the interim government will stabilise the country within a short span of time.
"We (BNP) are hopeful that the interim government is committed to reforms and announcing the national election roadmap," continued Mr Fakhrul.
About dialogue, the BNP leader said, "The interim government will sit in dialogue with political parties."
Responding to a query as to whether they discussed any tentative election date, he replied, "No, it was not discussed."
A three-member delegation of the BNP, led by Mr Fakhrul, met the chief adviser around 4:00 pm.
The meeting lasted around one hour and a half.
Standing committee members Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed were also present at the meeting.
Mr Fakhrul has been pushing the interim government for dialogue with political parties to address general election and state reform issues.
Earlier on August 12, a seven-member BNP delegation held its first meeting with Dr Yunus following his appointment as chief adviser.
