Major General (Retd) Md Emdad-Ul-Bari has been appointed as the chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The public administration ministry on Tuesday issued a notification in this regard.
The notice said: "Under Sections 7(1) and 9(2) of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulation Act, 2001, Major General (Retd) Md Emdad Ul Bari has been appointed to the post of chairman in the management and administration category of the BTRC on the condition of resigning from his working relationships with other institutions and organisations."
The government has appointed Bari for a three-year term effective from the date of his joining.
Former BTRC chairman Mohiuddin Ahmed resigned on August 14 showing illness.
Earlier, Emdad-Ul-Bari was the vice chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals.
Before that in 2017, he served as director general of the Systems and Services Department of BTRC.
Mr Bari also served as an observer in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and was then Colonel Commandant of the Signal Corps of the Bangladesh Army.
