Government will start enrolment for issuance of Machine Readable Passport (MRP) to the Bangladeshi workers in Saudi Arabia from March 25.
Some 5,000 Bangladeshis will be enlisted in Saudi Arabia each day, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment (EWOE) Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said on Thursday at a press conference.
The minister, who is also head of an advisory committee on issuing MRP for expatriates, said this after the committee meeting at the city's Probashi Kallyan Bhaban.
The other committee member Foreign Affairs Ministers Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali and Home Affairs State Minister Asaduzzaman Khan were also present at the press conference.
"With the process around 2.2 million Bangladeshi migrants in Saudi Arabia will get passports three months before deadline," said the minister.
Nearly 9.0 million Bangladeshis are working in160 countries. Of them, 6.0 million have already got MRP. The remaining 3.5 million will get the same within November this year, he said.
The EWOE minister said they have taken initiatives to give MRP to the Bangladeshi nationals in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Malaysia and other countries in due time.
"They will also get passports before deadline".  After November 25, manual passports will not be accepted by any countries, as per declaration by International Civil Aviation Organisation.
Government has employed outsourcing companies and also increases the logistic support of embassies for smooth supply of MRP to the countrymen, the minister said.
