ERC to issue licences to petroleum product stockists

August 09, 2009 00:00:00

The government has made it clear that it is the Energy Regulatory Commission, not the Directorate of Explosives, that will provide licences for stocking petroleum products, reports UNB.
"The Energy Regulatory Commission Act 2003 will prevail over the Petroleum Act 1934 and its subsequent rules in providing licences for stocking petroleum products," said a Law Ministry official referring to a government clarification in the wake of confusion over the matter.
He said the Directorate of Explosives used to provide licences for stocking petroleum products under Rules 115 of the Petroleum Act 1934 until enactment of the Energy Regulatory Commission Act 2003.
"Now it's the Energy Regulatory Commission that will deal with the matter as per its 2003 act and there should not be any overlapping in this regard," the Law Ministry official said.
