ETV chairman lands in jail

A court in the city on Tuesday sent Ekushey Television Ltd (ETV) chairman Abdus Salam, who was arrested in a case filed with the Cantonment Police Station under the Pornography Control Act 2012, to jail, report agencies.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) early on the day arrested  Abdus Salam from in front of ETV office at Karwan Bazar in the capital.

"ETV chairman was arrested in connection with a case filed by one Kaniz Fatema under Pornography Control Act 2012. A case (No-14) was lodged on November 26, 2014 with Cantonment Police Station," officer-in-charge (OC) Md Atiqul Haque of the concerned police station  said.

Metropolitan Magistrate Meher Nigar Suchana passed the order and fixed January 8 for hearing on his remand and bail petitions when he was produced before the court Tuesday afternoon.

Inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police and investigation officer of the case Shaha Md Aktheruzzaman Ilias showed him arrested in the pornography case and sought a seven-day remand for him.

Reports from several parts of the country say the ETV could not be viewed from Monday.
