Evening banking, an extended banking service by some branches, will have to keep their operations suspended until further instruction is given by the central bank in this regard, according to a notice issued by the banking watchdog on Tuesday.
The special banking service is usually offered between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, especially in the industrial zones as well as in commercial and posh areas.
Bangladesh Bank on Tuesday asked banks to suspend the banking activities as part of the government's austerity measures on reduction of power consumption.
In late July, the central bank asked the lenders to cut spending on petrol, diesel, gas and lubricant by at least 20 per cent within this fiscal year.
