CHATTOGRAM, July 10: The district administration of Chattogram started eviction drives against the illegal occupiers of the hills in the port city from the current month.
Executive magistrate of the administration Tauhidul Islam conducted a daylong raid in Akbershah area of Chattogram on Sunday. The team evicted 350 illegal establishments from the hill and its adjacent areas during the raid.
Earlier on July 3, executive magistrate of the administration Tauhidul Islam and his team conducted another raid at Boiltoli in Foy's Lake area of Chattogram and evicted around 500 illegal establishments from the hill side areas. They recovered eight acres of hilly land from the illegal occupiers in the raid.
Executive magistrate Tauhidul Islam said, "Executive magistrates of the district administration raided several hilly areas in Chattogram and stopped the illegal construction work on hilly lands. We are also taking legal action against the illegal occupiers of the hills in the port city."
He also said, "The eviction drive will be continued to evict all illegal establishments from the hills and hill side areas."
Sources said district administration has already identified the illegal occupiers at the hills in the port city and decided to evict all illegal occupiers soon. It will stop all the utility facilities of the illegal dwellers in the hill side areas and evict them.
Sources further said Hills Management and Rehabilitation Committee of Chattogram identified a total of 30 risky hills. Despite the high risk of landslide, more than 50 thousand people are living in hill side areas of Chattogram. The authorities concerned decided to evict the illegal establishments of the hill side areas and shift all illegal dwellers to another place.
The risky hills are CRB hills, Tiger-pass hills, Lalkhan Bazar hills, Mojaffarnagar hills, Kattoli to Sitakunda hills, Salimpur Bastuhara hills, Probortok hills, Gol Pahar hills, Ispahani hills, Foresty Research Institute area's hills, Joy Pahar hills, Chatteshewri hills, Motijhorna hills, Batali hills, Railway Emplyees Girls High School adjoining hills, Foy's Lake Residential Area's hills, Jalabad hills, Garibullah Shaha Majar area's hills, Baitul Aman Housing Society's hills, Cheragi Pahar hills, Chattogram City Corporation hills and DoE office area's hills, A K Khan hills, Chattogram University Owned hills, Kobillyo Dham Biswa Colony hills, Miar Pahar, Chanmari Road areas hills, Lake City R/A hills, Mir Mohammed Hasan's hills, Nasirabad I/A adjoining hills and Blosom Garden hills.
