NARAYANGANJ, June 2 (UNB): A court here Monday placed former Rab officer MM Rana on a fresh five-day remand in the sensational seven-murder case.
Senior Judicial Magistrate KM Mahiuddin passed the order when Detective Branch of Police Inspector Mamunur Rashid Mondal, also investigation officer of the case, produced him before his court on expiration of his second-phase eight-day remand.
In his forwarding, the IO told the court that evidences indicate that Rana was involved in the seven murders, and sought a seven-day remand. "Important information has already been gleaned during interrogation. He needs to be grilled again for further information."
After hearing, the court put Rana, former commander of Special Crime Prevention Company of Rab-11, on five days' remand.
Police arrested MM Rana from Dhaka Cantonment area on May 18 in connection with the much-talked-about seven murders.
Meanwhile BSS adds, the seven-member probe body Monday submitted its progress report on the Narayanganj seven- murder incident to the office of the Attorney General (AG) in the city.
Deputy Secretary of the law ministry Mizanur Rahman Khan, a member of the committee, submitted the report to Deputy Attorney General ASM Nazmul Haq.
Earlier, inspector general of police (IGP) and RAB director general submitted their progress report on investigation to the AG's office.
As per the high court order, Attorney General Mahbub-e-Alam said, the government has taken all-out measures to bring the perpetrators of the Narayanganj murders to book.
He said steps have been taken against the three RAB officials who have been charged. Meanwhile, departmental action has already been taken against them and they are in custody now, the AG added.
On May 5, as per a High Court directive, the public administration ministry constituted the seven-member probe body to investigate the abduction and murder of seven people in Narayanganj.
