Fakhrul, Khasru get bail in two cases

BNP Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and its Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury were granted bail on Wednesday in two cases filed with the Paltan Model Police Station over the political violence during the party's grand rally in Paltan area of the capital.
Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Tahmina Haque passed the bail order after hearing separate bail petitions filed by Fakhrul and Khasru.
Lawyers Md Asaduzzaman, Mohsin Miah, Iqbal Hossain and Zainal Abedin Mesbah appeared in the hearing for the BNP leaders.
A series of cases were filed with different police stations in the capital, accusing BNP and its associated organisations of the violence.
Thousands of BNP leaders and activists were rounded up by law enforcers in the cases.
A case was filed against BNP leaders with the Paltan Model Police Station on October 29 last year on charges of obstructing police from discharging duties and carrying out vandalism.
Both Fakhrul and Khasru secured bail in the case.
Another case was filed with the same police station on October 28 over the death of a police constable in a clash. Khasru gets bail in the case.
On October 29, the Detective Branch of police detained Fakhrul from his Gulshan residence around 9:25am. That day around 10:00pm, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rashidul Alam sent him to jail, rejecting his bail prayer.
On November 3, detectives detained Khasru from Gulshan in the capital.
Later in the day, he was placed on six-day remand in connection with the case filed over the death of the police constable in a clash on October 28. He was later sent to jail.
