KISHOREGANJ, Aug 06 (UNB): A Kishoreganj court on Wednesday sentenced three people, including a father, to death for killing his daughter in Karimganj upazila nearly nine years ago.
Judge Muhammad Nurul Amin Biplob of the Kishoreganj Senior District and Sessions Judge Court handed down the verdict and also fined each of the convicts Tk 500,000, said Assistant Public Prosecutor Mazharul Islam.
The convicts -- Anowarul Islam alias Angur Mia (the victim's father), his brother Khurshid Mia, and their cousin Sadek Mia -- were tried in absentia.
The court, however, acquitted the victim's mother, Nazmunnahar, of all charges.
According to the case documents, the accused murdered Mir Aktar Asma, daughter of Anowarul, on October 10, 2016, to falsely implicate their rivals in a land dispute with neighbour Abu Bakkar Siddique and others.
Following the incident, Anowarul filed a murder case accusing his rivals. However, a police investigation revealed that the murder was orchestrated by Asma's own family.
Police later filed a case against the three
and arrested them.
