FBCCI launches foundation

The country's apex chamber body Saturday has launched a foundation mainly to provide jobs to unemployed youths as part of corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The start-up fund for the foundation styled FBCCI Foundation, is Tk 3.8 million and the amount would increase to Tk 10 million by end-December this year.
Annisul Huq, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) announced this at a press conference held at its office in the city on the day.
FBCCI president said the foundation will mainly work on the creation of employment and a new concept: one family -- one businessman to reduce the unemployment problem.
Annisul said that the foundation will try to employ at least 7000 youths in hotel and restaurants, cyber café and bread and confectioneries within first six months of its establishment.
Youths who want to work in restaurants and confectioneries do not need any educational qualification while those who wants to work at cyber café needs minimum class eight standard certificates.
FBCCI president said 18 plus unemployed youths and women will get the job through on-the-job training programmes.
The trainees who want to work in the confectioneries and restaurants will get Tk 1500 for a period of six months during their apprenticeships. During the period, they will get free accommodation, meals and other facilities.
After training, they will be regularised with monthly salary fixed at Tk 2000 along with free accommodation, meals and other fringe benefits.
"The workers who will get six months on-the-job training will need to provide undertaking for continuing their job for at least one year in the respective organisations," FBCCI chief added.
Mr Annisul said: "We want to employ around 250 unemployed women initially."
The women workers will get Tk 4000 but they will not be provided any accommodation.
Julfiqur Haidar, a representative of Bangladesh Cyber Café Association told the reporters: " We want to hire around 300 unemployed youths as systems support assistant for the country's cyber cafés.
He said the owners of cyber cafés will award Tk 2500 during the six months probationary period and it will be enhanced to Tk 3000 after training period.
"We'll not provide shelter, meals and costs to the workers," Mr Julfiqur added.
