FBCCI stresses compliance, safety

FE REPORT | June 23, 2023 00:00:00

The apex trade body on Thursday attached importance to industrial compliance and worker safety for the betterment of economy.

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) underlined that no industry or factory could operate without compliance after 2026.

There is, thus, no alternative to safety workplace and prevention of accidents at industrial units, it cited.

The FBCCI came up with the observations during a meeting styled 'The importance of Safety Workplace including Chemical and Electrical Safety' hosted at its Motijheel office in Dhaka.

Addressing as the chief guest, FBCCI vice-president MA Momen suggested taking all-out preparedness to face any fire incident.

He laid emphasis on creating awareness among factory owners and workers.

Mr Momen urged factory or industry owners to maintain compliance, saying that the FBCCI would assist them in doing so, if needed.

Md Amin Helaly, another vice-president of FBCCI, said Bangladesh was moving forward to become a middle-income country from the lower-income one.

Workplace safety is vital as Bangladesh will become a high-income country one day, according to him.

Mr Helaly stressed the need for sustainable economy and industry for becoming a middle-income country.

GIZ adviser SAM Hussain said the industrial safety issue would not only ensure safety of industry or factory, but also strengthen economy.

Industrial compliance would also ensure safety of industry or factory workers, he added.

FBCCI director Hafez Noor and chairman of standing committee on fire safety, disaster and explosion Md Niaz Ali Chisti, among others, were present.
