Finance Adviser calls for proper information for policy formulation

Finance and Planning Adviser AB Mirza Azizul Islam Friday called upon the authorities concerned to help the government formulate policies through providing proper information and data, reports UNB.
"Dependable statistics are necessary to formulate government policies," he said, inaugurating the 10th National Statistics Conference at NEC auditorium.
Bangladesh Statistics Association organised the two-day conference titled 'Role of Statistics in Planning, Auditing and Development'.
The Adviser said Bangladesh has got visions of its economic growth, poverty alleviation and achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) like other countries.
"We'll have to determine our present status to plan for achieving the vision," he told the function, adding that the officials concerned have the scope to contribute to determining the impact of different indices on the development process.
He also stressed the need for acquisition of skills by those who analyse statistics.
Bangladesh Bank Governor Salehuddin Ahmed and Association general secretary Muhammad Abu Zafar also addressed the function with association president Kazi Saleh Ahmed presiding.
