NAOGAON, Dec 25 (UNB): Supporters of Naogaon-5 independent candidate Dewan Sekar Ahmed Shishan allegedly set fire to five election camps of Al-backed candidate Barrister Nazim Uddin Jalil on Sunday night.
The arsons were reported in Gostahatir more area of the town, Trimohani Bazar area of Sadar Upazila, Halghoshpara of Bakhtarpur Union and Chaktartao Muktarpara area at night.
Mahbubul Haque Kamal, president of Naogaon Sadar Upazila unit Awami League, said supporters of independent candidate Dewan Sekar Ahmed are provoking the supporters of the AL after the allocation of symbols.
"On Sunday, we informed the Election Commissioner regarding the terrorist activities of the supporters of Dewan Saker Ahmed. Election Commissioner Rasheda Sultana warned him to refrain from these activities. However, that night his supporters became more aggressive and set fire to the AL's camps," he said.
Preparations are being taken to submit a written complaint to the police station and electoral commission, added the AL leader.
Terming the allegation as meaningless and baseless, independent candidate and president of AL Naogaon municipal unit Dewan Saker Ahmed said that the supporters of AL candidate Nazim Uddin Jalil are playing dirty politics knowing confirm defeat in the election.
They are staging drama by setting fire to their own election camps, he alleged.
He claimed that the supporters of the AL candidate are continuing to threaten my supporters.
