Five die, record 1,246 patients hospitalised

DGHS sets testing fee at Tk 50

Deaths in dengue outbreak continued, as five more people died from the mosquito-borne fever on Wednesday, taking the total casualties to 88.

At the same time, record 1,246 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, which was the highest hospitalisation in a single day, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the total hospitalisation, 709 patients were admitted in Dhaka, while the rest were admitted across the country. A total of 3,791 people were being treated in hospitals. Of them, 2,530 were from Dhaka.

A total of 16,143 dengue patients have taken treatment in various public and private hospitals of the country since January till date. Of them, 11,001 were from Dhaka, said the DGHS.

Of the total admitted, 12,264 patients made recovery and returned home, of whom 8,402 were from Dhaka.

Meanwhile, amid rush of the dengue patients to hospitals, the DGHS on Wednesday in a statement said people can do dengue test in all government hospitals with Tk 50 in the next one month.

The entity also advised that people should be careful without panicking about dengue, and pay attention to environmental cleanliness. In case of fever, it is necessary to consult a doctor to get tested for dengue, as per the DGHS warning message.

This fever can be cured through simple treatment. However, dengue shock syndrome and dengue hemorrhagic fever can be fatal, it added.
