Five more children with suspected measles died in the past 24 hours, raising the number of suspected measles deaths to 631 since 15 March, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remained unchanged at 93 during the period, according to a report released on Thursday afternoon by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the DGHS.
The report said no laboratory-confirmed measles death was recorded between 8:00 am on Wednesday and 8:00 am on Thursday.
However, five children died with suspected measles during the 24-hour reporting period.
According to the DGHS, a total of 93 people have died from laboratory-confirmed measles since 15 March, while 631 people have died with suspected measles over the same period. Combined, the total number of measles-related deaths has reached 724.
The report also said 154 new laboratory-confirmed measles cases were detected during the past 24 hours, while 965 people were identified as suspected measles patients.
Since 15 March, the country has recorded 12,286 laboratory-confirmed measles cases and 102,993 suspected cases.
During the same period, 86,411 suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals, while 82,759 were discharged after recovery.
Division-wise data showed that Dhaka recorded the highest number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths, with 57 fatalities. Barishal reported 19 confirmed deaths, Chattogram 10, Sylhet three, and Mymensingh and Rajshahi two each.
Among suspected measles deaths, Dhaka also recorded the highest toll, with 272 fatalities. Rajshahi reported 88 deaths, followed by Sylhet with 82, Mymensingh 62, Chattogram 51, Barishal 40, Khulna 28 and Rangpur eight, the DGHS report added.
