Five more die with measles symptoms

Five more children died with measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours until 8:0 am on Friday, according to the health authorities.
With the latest daily count, the total death toll from measles and measles-like symptoms reached 670 since mid-March this year.
Of the total fatalities, 93 were confirmed as measles cases.
Besides, of the total confirmed and suspected deaths, 298 were reported in Dhaka, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported in its daily bulletin on Friday.
Meanwhile, as many as 1,078 suspected and 96 confirmed infections were recorded in the past 24 hours.
The total suspected measles cases rose to 90,982 and confirmed infections to 10,869 since mid March, said DGHS.
In response to a measles outbreak rapidly spreading across the country, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched an emergency measles-rubella vaccination campaign, targeting children aged 6 months to 5 years since April 5.
The government has already vaccinated over 18.47 million children since April and said immunisation will continue.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease, which affects individuals of all ages and remains one of the leading causes of death among young children globally.
Measles is usually a mild or moderately severe disease. However, measles can lead to complications such as pneumonia, diarrhea, secondary ear infection, inflammation of the brain (encephalitis), blindness, and death.
