Flood situation in some parts worsens further

The latest flood situation in the country's northeastern and northwestern parts deteriorated further, spreading fast into newer areas during the last 24 hours to 6.00 am Monday with the major rivers continuing to swell again amid heavy rain, reports UNB.
In the northeastern region encompassing Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Netrakona and Sherpur, the situation is likely to aggravate further in the next 12 hours, according to a forecast by the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).
It also said that southeastern districts of Comilla, Feni, Noakhali, Chittagonj, Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachari are experiencing flashflood and the situation is likely to improve in the next 12 hours.
"The flood situation in the south-central part of the country is likely to deteriorate slightly in the next 24-72 hours," it said.
Meanwhile, the Health Department counted seven more flood-related deaths across the country during the period, raising the toll to 840 so far in the two spells of flooding.
"Due to very active monsoon the northeastern part of the country experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours," said the centre.
Some 148mm rainfall was recorded in Sherpur while 120mm in Manu Rly Bridge, 98.0mm in Sylhet, 92.0 mm in Panchpukuria, 90.0 mm in Chittagong, 76.0 mm in Moulvi Bazar, and 75 mm in Habiganj.
