Fog disrupts ferry services, traffic


Thick fog disrupted ferry services and traffic in different parts of the country, reports UNB.
In Manikganj, ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route in the Padma river resumed after three and a half hours of disruption caused by dense fog on Monday morning.
Assistant General Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha Nasir Mohammad Chowdhury said they kept suspended ferry services on the route from 7:00 am to 10:30 am due to poor visibility caused by thick fog.
Following suspension of ferry services, hundreds of vehicles were stranded at Paturia and Daulatdia ghats, causing acute sufferings to the passengers, he also said.
Report from Tangail adds: Traffic on the Bangabandhu Bridge halted on Monday morning as authorities had to stop toll plazas of the bridge due to dense fog.
The suspension of the vehicular movement due to poor visibility caused around 30km tailback at both ends of the bridge, causing immense sufferings to thousands of passengers.
Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station officer-in-charge Asabur Rahman said movement of all kinds of vehicles has remained stopped to cross the bridge since 7:50 am.
Hundreds of vehicles got stranded at both ends of the bridge stretching Mirzapur of Tangail in the east and Bogra in the west.
