Several foreign dignitaries attended the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh's new Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the capital on Tuesday.
They include UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Indo-Pacific) and Minister for Equalities Seema Malhotra; Turkish Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Berris Ekinci; India's Lok Sabha (parliament) Speaker Om Birla; Sri Lanka's Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr Nalinda Jayatissa; Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu; Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay; Nepal's Foreign Minister Bala Nanda Sharma; and Pakistan's Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary.
Earlier, the interim government had invited the heads of government of 13 countries to attend the ceremony.
Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman took oath as the country's 11th prime minister, with the swearing-in of the new 50-member cabinet.
