Former CEC ATM Shamsul Huda dies

Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda passed away on Saturday at the age of 83.

"Former CEC and husband of my elder sister Shamsul Huda died at his Dhaka's Gulshan residence around 9am ," Ashfaque Quadri, brother-in law of Huda told BSS.

Shamsul Huda was brought to the United Hospital as he fell sick in his residence in the morning. The attending doctors at the hospital pronounced him dead, he said.

His body would be kept at the morgue of the hospital and his funeral would be held after his daughter's return from the United States, he added.

Huda is survived by his wife and the daughter.

The ninth parliamentary election was held under his leadership in 2008.
