Four ex-CPA men among 6 held in corruption case

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Saturday arrested six persons, including former Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), in connection with a corruption case filed with Tejgaon police station September 2, reports UNB.
The arrested are : former CPA Chairman ASM Shahadat Hossain, its Member (Finance) Ahmed Abul Kashem, Member (Engineering) Lutful Kabir, Director (Transportation) Sanwar Hossain, and Directors of GATCO Sayed Tanvir Ahmed and Galib Ahmed.
ACC deputy director Golam Shahriar Chowdhury filed the case against former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, her youngest son Arafat Rahman Koko and 11 others, including the six arrestees.
Police said a team of ACC arrested the former CPA Chairman and three top CPA officials from Sher-e-Banglanagar area at about 2:00 pm, while the two GATCO directors were picked up from their residence at West Nakhalpara.
They were handed over to Tejgaon police station later in the afternoon. Khaleda was accused of awarding a contract by abusing power to Global Agro Trade Company (GATCO) Limited in March 2003 for handling container cargo at Chittagong Port and Kamalapur Inland Container Depot.
The other accused in the case are Zulfiqar Ali, Ismail Hossain Saimon, AKM Musa Kajal, Jahanara Akbar and Ehsan Yusuf.
They were charged under section 5 (2) of the Corruption Prevention Act 1947.
Khaleda and Koko were arrested from their Cantonment residence on September 3. They are now detained in jail.
