The government has taken an initiative to set up four new wholesale kitchen markets in the city aiming to pull back the on-going price spiral by increasing supply of the essentials, reports UNB.
Keeping in mind the problem of transport congestion, four spots at city's Lalbagh, Amin Bazar, Jatrabari and Tejgaon have been chosen to set up the markets.
The construction work for the Amin Bazar wholesale kitchen market has already begun and the construction of three other markets will be started soon.
Local Government Division secretary Safar Raj Hossain while talking to newsmen at the residence of the divisional commissioner of Dhaka before visiting the spots said the initiative has been taken to meet the demand of the city dwellers.
When the construction work for the markets is completed, more goods will come, which contributes to keep the price stable, Safar Raj hoped saying that people would be able to buy essentials easily from these markets.
About Taka 20.6 billion (206 crore) will be spent for construction of the markets where 2,575 shops will be built, he said.
