GAIBANDHA, Sept 2 (UNB): Job seekers laid siege to the office of Civil Surgeon and ransacked it in protest against irregularities and corruption in recruitment of 68 people to various posts of the Health Department.
The agitated candidates demanded immediate removal of Civil Surgeon Rafiqul Islam and postponement of the recruitment held t. They alleged that the Civil Surgeon completed the whole process as per the lists given by the senior Health Department officials and ruling party leaders.
They also alleged that the Civil Surgeon went to Dhaka on Thursday and made the secret list for the recruitment. They said the list was hanged on the gate of the Civil Surgeon office at dead of night.
When the candidates saw the list in the morning they got furious and went on a rampage.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Later, the protestors brought out a procession and paraded different streets of the town.
A total of 2,780 candidates took part in the recruitment test held for fulfilling 68 posts of class IV employees. However, Civil Surgeon Dr Rafiqul Islam denied all these allegations when he was contacted over mobile phone.
