Ganabhaban, CJ residence, AL offices vandalised


Miscreants vandalised and looted Ganabhaban, the official residence of the Prime Minister, different government offices, political party offices and different residential buildings, including the official residence of the Chief Justice, in the city on Monday.
As the news spread across the country that Sheikh Hasina left the Ganabhaban, people opened the gates and entered inside the compound around 3:00 pm.
Witnesses said they stormed into Ganabhaban, overturned furniture, smashed glass doors, and took away different items from the residence.
Miscreants also looted and vandalised the official residence of Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan in Dhaka's Kakrail area in the afternoon.
They entered the residence of the chief justice at 4:45 pm and looted almost everything, including cars and furniture, from the house, a source close to the chief justice confirmed the update. The source, however, would not give any details.
In the afternoon, a section of the people torched Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's office at Dhanmondi in the city. They also vandalised the residential building of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal around 3.00 pm on Monday.
Miscreants also torched the district office of Awami League at 4.00 pm on Monday. Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi 32 in the city was also torched by them. Different police stations in the city also came under attack.
Meanwhile, the coordinators of the student movement have urged the countrymen not to vandalise and set ablaze offices, police stations and residential buildings.
The University Teachers' Network also urged everyone to refrain from looting, vandalism, arson, and attacking minority groups and their religious establishments.
The teachers requested all to maintain peace for the greater interest of the country. They made the request at a press briefing held at Dhaka University's Madhur Canteen around 6:00 pm.
Urging everyone to refrain from any destructive activities, Dhaka University Professor Samina Lutfa said, "We need to protect the properties of the state, including Ganabhaban and Sangsad Bhaban ... We need to ensure the safety of all, irrespective of their caste, creed, and colour."
