Glitch briefly hits metro operation

The metro rail service once again remained suspended for more than half an hour due to a technical fault in a train on Monday afternoon.
Sources said one train heading towards Motijheel was required to take back at Agargaon for experiencing a glitch in the brake at 3:30 pm, forcing all trains on the track stranded.
As Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line-06 has shuttling space at Agargaon station, according to officials concerned, the time was taken to make the track free and adjust other train schedules.
After the incident, witnesses said, the train from Motijheel moved after Farmgate leaving all passengers at 3:45 pm.
Another train from the same side later picked them after 10 minutes. However, train movement from the other side took more time to resume.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited managing director Faruque Ahmed said passenger pressure became normal after increasing frequency of trains.
The train operation was suspended for seven to eight minutes due to a mechanical problem, he added.
Since its partial launch on 29 December 2022, the MRT-06 operation has been facing disruptions every now and then.
However, metro operation remained suspended for 11 hours on September 17 due to displacement of bearing pad in one pier.
Besides, it was suspended for five hours due to a technical problem on January 24.
First-ever power outrage on the track also kept the operation of the metro suspended on February 05.
The MRT-06 is the country's first urban rail service running on electricity, which was launched before readying adequate trained manpower due to pressure by the Awami League government.
