Global Covid-19 cases top 47.5m

More than 1.2 million people have died from Covid-19 in the world and over 47.5 million people have been infected with the virus, according to the latest tally from worldometer.

The death toll from Covid-19 in the world reached 1,214,202 while the total caseload stood at 47,527,956 as of Tuesday night, report agencies.

The US has registered 231,510 deaths with 9,284,966 infections -- both the highest in the world.

Meanwhile, a new study revealed that cellular, or "T-cell," immunity against Covid-19 is likely to be present within most adults six months after primary infection.

Research by the UK Coronavirus Immunology Consortium (UK-CIC), Public Health England and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust has found "robust T-cell responses" to the coronavirus six months after infection.

T-cells are a part of our immune system that attack cells which have been infected with a virus or other kind of pathogen and they help other antibody-producing cells in the immune system.

Scientists have been investigating T-cell responses to the coronavirus to see how lasting any immune response might be in individuals who have caught, and recovered from, Covid-19.
