Gold price cut by Tk 840 in local market

FE REPORT | April 21, 2024 00:00:00

Jewellers in the local market have cut the 22-carat gold price slightly after raising the rate to record highs in several phases since April 6.

As per the new decision taken by the Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJUS) on Saturday, every bhori (11.664 grams) of gold now will cost Tk 1,18,798.

The new price is lower by Tk 840 per bhori from the high of Tk 1,19,638 scaled two days ago.

The BAJUS said it came up with the decision following the decline in price of pure gold in the local market.

Following the decision every gram of 21- and 18-carat gold will cost Tk 9,722 and Tk 8,333 respectively.

The jewellers revised up the gold price on several occasions from the level of Tk 1,15,824 per bhori on April 6.

However, silver prices remained unchanged.

The prices of 22-, 21-and 18-carat silver were Tk 180, Tk 172, and Tk 147 respectively.

The BAJUS requested all jewellers to abide by the new pricing until a new decision taken.

According to market insiders, five per cent value-added tax (VAT) and making charges are added to the gold and silver prices.
