Gold prices in the country hit an all time high on Monday as a new tariff has been fixed at Tk 10,080 per gram or Tk 117,573 per bhori.

The local jewellers have revised the price upward on the back of an increase in the value of pure gold in the country.

The new prices are effective from 4.00 pm on Monday, according to a statement of Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (Bajus) issued to the media following a decision at a meeting of its standing committee on pricing and price monitoring.

As per the new decision, the value of 22-carat gold increased by Tk 1,750 per bhori from Tk 115,824, which was fixed on Saturday last.

Of the other varieties, the value of 21- and 18-carat of the metal increased to Tk 9,620 and Tk 8,250 per gram respectively.

Besides, traditional (sanatan) gold price also increased to Tk 6,875 per gram.

Meanwhile, all varieties of silver prices remained static to previous rates.

Per gram 22-, 21 and 18-carat of silver will be sold at Tk 180, Tk 172, and Tk 147 respectively.

The trade body requested all jewellery dealers to follow the new pricing until it reaches a new decision.

In addition to the price of the metals fixed by the bajus, a customer also requires to pay five per cent value-added tax (VAT) and ornament-making costs.
