Govt activities to continue despite poll schedule: Salehuddin

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed on Tuesday said that government operations will continue as usual despite the announcement of the national election schedule.
"All government activities will continue as long as they do not directly influence the election," he said, adding that only decisions affecting the election, such as fresh field-level postings, will remain suspended.
Speaking to journalists after a Purchase Committee meeting at the Secretariat, Dr Salehuddin explained that while certain restrictions are imposed on field administration ahead of the election, regular government functions-such as budget implementation, ongoing projects, contract work, salary and allowance payments, and the approval of new projects-will not be affected.


Addressing public confusion surrounding the interim government during the election period, he clarified that routine government functions are proceeding without disruption.
"Even when I was abroad, all meetings, approvals, and daily operations continued as usual. Government work never stops," he said.
The meeting also reviewed progress in the education sector.
Dr Salehuddin said there was no reason for concern regarding textbook distribution before the election. Except for some books re-tendered for printing, most textbooks are ready, and distribution will start in the first week of January.
"Textbook distribution is in no way linked to the election. Classes begin in January, so we have asked for further acceleration in book distribution. Election restrictions do not apply here; rather, supplying books to children will be encouraged," he added.
