Govt allows export of 1.5m pieces of salted cowhide

The government has allowed export of 1.5 million pieces of salted cowhide (hairy bovine hide).

A company named Bio Ingredients of Mohanpur, Rajshahi, was given permission on July 20 to export the cowhide to Turkey.

The conditional export permission will remain effective until June 30, 2024.

Salted hairy bovine hide is cowhide with hair preserved with salt after slaughter. It is sold at a low price. The hide, belonging to C category, is not exactly raw cowhide, but a special part of cow skin.

During shipments of such hide, the trader concerned is required to follow the Export Policy 2021-24. Necessary documents will be submitted to the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) after completion of shipments.

Besides, the trader cannot export other hides, except salted hairy bovine hide, and cannot export to other countries, except Turkey.

According to the MoC officials, four companies exported 2.0 million pieces of salted hairy bovine cowhide last year with the ministry's permission. More applications are pending for export permission of such hide.
