The government Thursday directed Ekushey Television (ETV) and CSB TV channels to refrain from broadcasting any "provocative" news, documentary, talk shows, discussion programmes and the like, reports UNB.
An official instruction issued upon the Ekushey Television Ltd and Focus Multimedia Company Ltd reminded that the country is now under Emergency Rules that empower the government to impose a ban or restrictions on broadcast of any such provocative programme against government. Such action could be taken "for the sake of security of state or people according to section 5 of the Emergency Power Rules 2007."
The authorities noted that the two channels had been broadcasting such provocative news, documentary, talk shows etc against the government for the last couple of days. "Such activities should be banned immediately in public interest. So, the government has issued the order according to rule 5 (1) of the Emergency Power Rules 2007."
The government warned that any violation of the order is a punishable offence according to rule 5 (3) of the Emergency Power Rules 2007.
