FE Report
The government for the first time will officially announce today (Monday) the names of the commercially important persons (CIPs) for export sector, on the basis of their unique contribution to the sector in 2009.
The objectives of announcing the CIPs for export sector are to encourage the local exporters, and create an environment of fair competition in the business arena, said a press release.
Commerce Minister M Faruk Khan will handover CIP cards to 49 exporters and 32 ex-officio of different trade bodies as recognition of their contribution in exporting 22 major products last year.
The government has selected them by following the CIP (Export) Guideline - 2006, which considers various factors like export revenue, product and market diversification, and contribution to the public exchequer through tax and VAT.
The CIPs are nominated for one year, and they will retain the honour until the next batch of CIPs is selected next year.
The CIPs will enjoy different facilities including entry pass to the Secretariat, use of VIP lounge at airport, and ticket quota at Biman, railway and river route transports. Besides, they will be invited to different national and municipal programmes.
The country's export sector achieved 4.11 per cent growth in the 2009-10 fiscal.
