The government now has no objection to reopen the country's public universities that were shut down amid raging campus violence, said Education Adviser Ayub Quadri Monday, reports UNB.
Respective syndicate should decide when the universities would be reopened, the adviser told the reporters after a three-hour-long meeting with the vice-chancellors of the universities at his office.
"Now the government has no objection to reopen the public universities. I told the VCs that the syndicates have to decide when the universities would be reopened," said the adviser.
However, he described the situation of Dhaka University as different than that of the other universities, and opined for more discussion about its reopening.
About the reopening of the colleges in the country's divisional headquarters, the adviser said, the government would take decision about the colleges some days later.
Meanwhile, DU Vice-Chancellor SMA Faiz said, DU syndicate would meet soon to take decision about the reopening of the university.
"Now my task is to talk with the teachers, students, syndicate and senate members. The syndicate will take the final decision," he added.
