The government has moved forward to introduce new ideas and asked the ministries and departments concerned to come forward with those for the welfare of the nation, official sources said.

It asked the ministries and departments to furnish at least one innovative idea each month to the prime minister's office (PMO) to streamline public service, they added.

The innovative ideas should have novelty, effectiveness, significance and re-applicability to get government's support.

After getting new ideas from the ministries and departments, the PMO will hold meeting to issue necessary directives and provide support.

The Access to Information (A2I) programme of PMO will finance implementation of the suitable ideas from the 'innovation fund' which is open for all innovators from public and private sectors with focus on    pro-poor service delivery, service decentralisation, gender empowerment, rural development, green initiatives, low cost devices, right to information, and Bangla Language Tools. The ministries and departments will have to forward their innovative ideas in project proforma to the A2I project of PMO for getting fund.

A recent meeting held with director general of PMO Nilufar Ahmed in the chair, emphasised the need for delivering the best possible services to people.

In the meeting director of A2I project said the 'innovation fund' has a significant amount of money but it receives very few applications from ministries and departments for implementation of innovative projects.

He requested the officials of the ministries and departments concerned to apply for fund to implement their innovative ideas for the welfare of the people.

The 'innovation fund' promotes homegrown initiatives to materialise the slogan 'services at citizen's doorsteps'. Government officials, development practitioners, private sector professionals, university students and citizens coming forward with out-of-the-box ideas can apply for this fund.

The 'innovation fund' will also groom the young generation of innovators and creators who will be able to assist the government in its endeavours to provide people-friendly public services for poverty alleviation and equitable growth.

The key objectives of the fund are to provide seed funding to pioneering and creative innovations for better public service delivery, and enhancing capacity of small-medium initiatives working to find creative solutions in technology for development.
