FE REPORT | June 25, 2020 00:00:00

The government opened on Wednesday an online agricultural market portal styled 'hortexbazarbd.com' aiming to boost farm product trade during the novel coronavirus pandemic, said officials.

Agriculture minister Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque inaugurated the portal in a virtual meeting on development and evaluation of the ministry's projects and programmes on the day.

Agriculture secretary Md Nasiruzzaman chaired the programme where other senior officials of the ministry also attended.

Hortex Foundation, an organisation under the ministry which focuses mainly on the external trade of farm produce, has developed the portal.

The web portal will deal both local and foreign buyers, said Dr Razzaque.

People can order seasonal fruits like mango, litchi, banana, fragrant rice and sundry other products using the site which would reach their doorsteps, he added.

However, Mr Nasiruzzaman said his ministry had been able to spend 59 per cent of its annual development programme (ADP) allocation until May 31.

A total of 78 projects were being implemented this fiscal for which the allocation was Tk 17.63 billion.

But the ministry spent Tk 10.42 billion in eleven months of the outgoing fiscal year, he concluded.
