FE Report | August 14, 2015 00:00:00

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said on Thursday the government would appoint project directors (PDs) for the development projects after proper test of the aspirants.

He said: "From now on, interviews will be taken for appointing the PDs. The educational qualification and project-related training of the aspiring candidates will be assessed."

"I have already discussed details on the issue with the energy secretary yesterday," Mr Kamal told the 33rd meeting of the Board of Governors of the National Academy of Planning and Development (NAPD) in the city.

Currently, government ministries can appoint PDs for their projects without any interview or test.

Mustafa Kamal asked the NAPD to train the PDs and officials involved with project execution for boosting their capacities.

The board member of the NAPD and Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) president Abdul Matlub Ahmed said at the meeting that the PDs should be trained up before appointment.

Economic Relations Division (ERD) secretary Mohammad Mejbahuddin has advised the officials concerned to employ PDs from outside the government.

Finance secretary Mahbub Alam, education secretary Nazrul Islam, IMED secretary, Planning Commission members, NAPD director general, and other officials also attended the meeting.
