Govt plans Tk 2.72b project

The Department of Disaster Management plans to generate 3.63 million workdays under the Employment Generation Program for the Poorest (EGPP), allocating Tk 1.46 billion to support 10,080 families in 15 upazilas of Feni and Brahmanbaria-two districts severely impacted by the August-September floods.

According to Planning Commission officials, each worker will receive a total of Tk 0.15 million from the World Bank supported programme, earning Tk 400 per day over 360 days, while contributing to the development and maintenance of public infrastructure.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has submitted a project proposal titled "Sustainable Recovery Emergency Preparedness and Response Project (B-STRONG)" to the Planning Ministry, with an estimated cost of Tk 2.72 billion.

The government will provide Tk 276.7 million for implementation, while the remaining Tk 2.44 billion-approximately 90% of the total cost-will be sourced from concessional loans from the World Bank.

The project will have a provision of purchase of procuring 370 rescue speed boat for 37 flood prone districts, 10 for each district with an estimated cost of Tk 606.56 million.

A total of 2,400 volunteers will be trained in search and rescue operations, boat handling, and basic disaster risk management under the project.

Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Institutions Division of the planning commission scheduled a meeting of the Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) to conduct detailed analysis of the proposal.
