Govt prepares draft summary report

The government has prepared a draft summary report on the development of trade and investment which will be discussed at a WTO meeting next year, an official said.
Issues like import-export policy, tax policy, investment scenario, regulatory policies, compliance issue of readymade garment factory and monetary policy will get priority during the 5th Bangladesh Trade Policy Review meeting to be held on April 03 and 05 in Geneva.
Besides, priority sectors of the country's business, bilateral trade measures and free trade agreement issue will also come up at the review meeting for discussion.
The meeting will be held in line with Trade Policy Review Mechanism (TPRM) of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
"We have prepared a draft summary report on the development of our trade and investment by incorporating the recommendations put forward by the stakeholders concerned," a high official of the commerce ministry who is involved with the process told the FE.
He said a team from the WTO will visit Bangladesh next month to discuss the country's trade and business development with stakeholders.
After the meeting, he said, they will prepare a detailed report on the development of trade and investment.
The commerce ministry official said the summary report of Bangladesh and WTO's full report on the country's trade and investment will be uploaded on the WTO website.
Member states of the WTO can make queries regarding Bangladesh's latest development scenario of trade and investment.
