Govt set to allow soybean oil import

The government is set to allow soybean-oil import of around 8.0 million litres through open tenders.

A proposal in this regard, among other issues, is scheduled to be tabled at a meeting of the cabinet committee on government purchase today (Wednesday), officials said.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal is likely to chair the meeting to be held virtually.

The cabinet body also would also consider a proposal by the Ministry of Commerce to allow Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) to buy 8,000 tonnes of lentil from international sources through open tenders.

Two other proposals for importing 0.10 million tonnes of MOP fertiliser under an agreement between the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and Canadian Commercial Corporation would also be approved at the meeting, said the officials.

Besides, a proposal for purchasing 50,000 tonnes of wheat from foreign sources is expected to be endorsed for the current fiscal year.

Import of one cargo of LNG under the master sale and purchase agreement (MSPA), appointment of construction firm in setting up Bangladesh chancery complex at Berlin, Germany, which is now being implemented, are expected to be approved at the meeting.

A proposal for development of an inland water transport terminal with necessary infrastructure at Narayanganj and a few other proposals would also be considered at the meeting.
