The government is set to approve a project on waste-to-energy production by using garbage of Dhaka North City Corporation, officials said.
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase is scheduled to approve the proposal of the Power Division today (Thursday).
Once approved, the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) will generate 42.5 megawatts (MW) of electricity from waste.
The cabinet committee, a few weeks back, also approved a proposal to set up another project to generate 6.0 MW of electricity from garbage of Narayanganj City Corporation.
Officials said the waste-to-energy projects are getting importance, as the two garbage dumping stations in Aminbazar and Matuail areas are going to be filled up in two years, creating a shortage of place for dumping waste.
