The government will sit today to discuss necessary strategies on ongoing anti-money laundering (AML) and anti-terrorist financing efforts ahead of its meeting with an international organisation later this month, officials said.
The meeting today is set to review progress on the third round mutual evaluation by the Asia/Pacific Group (APG) on Money Laundering, they added.
A face-to-face discussion will be held with the APG later this month before finalisation of the 3rd round mutual evaluation report. The APG will finalise the report on mutual evaluation of Bangladesh in July next in its annual general meeting.
The third round mutual evaluation on Bangladesh is being continued by the APG. An on-site visit has been completed by the APG on the basis of technical compliance response and effectiveness response that was held from October 11-23, 2015.
The country submitted the technical compliance response and effectiveness response in April and June last year respectively to the APG as part of the evaluation process.
The APG has already sent a first draft report on the on-site visit to Bangladesh. According to the report, rating of the technical compliance is good. On the other hand, rating of the effectiveness response is not up to the desired level.
Presently, some 10 out of 11 immediate outcomes (IOs) on AML and anti-terrorist financing efforts are low and moderate. For this, the country is likely to be enlisted as a risky country. The APG has alerted the country in this connection, a Bangladesh Bank (BB) source said.
