The government is going to approve today (Thursday) a Tk 2.63 trillion Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the next fiscal year of 2023-24 (FY '24) - 11.18 per cent higher than the current one.
Besides, it is likely to endorse another Tk 116.74 billion fund allocation for the state-owned autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies in the ADP for FY '24.
The National Economic Council (NEC) is expected to approve the ADP at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
"We will place the ADP before the NEC tomorrow. We hope the PM-headed highest economic policy-making body - NEC - will endorse the development programme," a senior official of the Planning Commission told the FE on Wednesday.
According to the Commission, the proposed Tk 2.63 trillion ADP outlay will be 11.18 per cent higher than the current revised ADP outlay of Tk 2.36 trillion while 6.91 per cent higher than the original ADP of Tk 2.46 trillion of the ongoing FY '23.
The ADP is a part of the national budget under which the government implements nearly 2,000 development projects every year to facilitate the economic growth of the country.
In the proposed Tk 2.63 trillion ADP outlay, some Tk 1.69 trillion will come from the government's own resources and the remaining Tk 940 billion funds from the external sources as the project aid, said the high official.
He said the NEC is to approve a Tk 116.74 billion fund for the autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies in the next ADP.
Considering the allocation of the autonomous bodies and corporations, the overall size of the ADP for the upcoming FY '24 will be Tk 2.74 trillion, he explained.
Like the current ADP, the transport and communications sector is going to receive a massive Tk 759.45 billion allocation, 28.88 per cent of the total Tk 2.63 trillion ADP outlay for the next fiscal.
The power and energy sector is going to attain the second highest - Tk 443.93 billion - fund, 16.88 per cent of the total outlay. The education sector is likely to get the 3rd highest Tk 298.89 billion and the housing and community facilities Tk 270.46 billion allocation in the upcoming ADP.
The Planning Commission official said they have set aside Tk 80.87 billion, including Tk 46.97 billion for the special development needs, as a block allocation in the upcoming ADP.
