FE Report
The government has decided to release Tk 2.0 billion in cash incentives to facilitate the leading export earners to pay salaries and dues to their workers before Eid-ul Fitr.
The finance ministry will release the amount through Bangladesh Bank (BB) by this week.
Of Tk 2.0 billion, two leading export earners --readymade garments (RMGs) and frozen foods -- will receive Tk 1.0 billion and Tk 580 million respectively.
The rest of the amount worth about Tk 420 million will be disbursed among other export earners and related enterprises that are entitled to enjoy the facility.
The leading exporters will be able to overcome their financial problem as the government is quickly releasing the allocated cash incentives for the current fiscal.
In the budget for fiscal 2007-08, the government allocated Tk 11.0 billion as cash incentives. Of the amount, it has released Tk 4.0 billion in two installments in the first three months of the current fiscal.
In fiscal 2006-07, the total allocated cash incentive was worth Tk 5.0 billion.
Sources said the amount of arrear cash incentives for the exporters will come down soon if the government maintains its current trend of releasing cash incentives.
The amount of arrear cash incentives due for the export-oriented industries and other related enterprises is still more than Tk 8.0 billion.
A total of 18 such export earners are entitled to enjoy cash incentives against their export of products.
The government has introduced the cash incentives for the leading export earners to help them stay competitive in the international market.
