Government will import one more liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from international spot market in November.
State-run Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL) has already received tender to purchase one spot LNG cargo for November 12-13 delivery after getting fresh approval from government high-ups, a senior Petrobangla official told the FE Sunday.
The bid winner will supply the spot LNG cargo to Moheshkhali floating, storage and re-gasification unit (FSRU).
With November 12-13 delivery spot LNG cargo, Bangladesh's LNG import from spot market will be 10 in total in current fiscal year 2022-2023 since July, the official added.
The RPGCL has planned to import one more LNG cargo from spot market in December ahead of the country's next general election slated for January 2024, said the official.
Previously, it had planned to import a total of nine spot LNG cargoes from July to December, he said.
But the government has already purchased previously allocated nine spot LNG cargoes until October, two months ahead of December timeline, he added.
Bangladesh imported a total of 12 spot LNG cargoes during February to June this year after resumption of its spot LNG imports following seven month's hiatus.
Bangladesh previously awarded two tenders for October deliveries, of which Gunvor Singapore Pte Ltd supplied one spot LNG cargo at US$14.87 per million British thermal unit (MMBtu) for October 11-12 delivery to the Moheshkhali FSRU, said a senior Petrobangla official.
Singapore's Vitol Asia will supply another spot LNG cargo for October 25-26 deliveries into Moheshkhali FSRUs at US$14.90 per MMBTu, he added.
Since initiation of spot LNG imports on September 25, 2020 Bangladesh has so far imported a total of 48 spot LNG cargoes until September 2023, according to official data of the RPGCL.
Separately, Bangladesh will import a total of four LNG cargoes in November - three from Qatargas and one from OQ Trading, previously known as Oman Trading International, which is 20 per cent lower than October's five LNG cargo imports from term suppliers, according to Petrobangla. l
Despite payment delays Bangladesh is continuing LNG imports from both long term and spot suppliers, said the official said.
