Govt to purchase 16m litres of soybean oil

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) at a meeting on Wednesday approved procurement of 16 million litres of soybean oil for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
The committee also approved importing 60,000 tonnes of fertilisers.
Chaired by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, the virtually held meeting also gave the go-ahead to a proposal for buying Tk915 million worth of equipment for Shikalbaha Peaking Power Plant in Chattogram.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Cabinet Division's additional secretary Sayeed Mahbub Khan said under an open tender method some 11 million litrrs of soybean oil will be bought at a cost of Tk1.90 billion.
Meghna Edible Oil Refinery Ltd will supply the oil at a cost of Tk 172.95 each litter, bit lower than last purchase of Tk177 per litre.
In another proposal, the TCB gave the go-ahead to buy five million litres of soybean oil under direct purchase method at a total cost of Tk864 million.
The UN Trading will supply each litre of oil at Tk172.8.
Moreover, the meeting approved import of 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser from Karnaphuli Fertiliser Company Limited at a cost of Tk1.10 billion. Each tonne will cost $345.12
Also, the committee approved import of 30,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company Saudi Arabia under state to state agreement. The total cost of the import will be Tk1.15 billion while each tonne will cost $361.83.
