The National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman, Badiur Rahman, said Sunday the government will allow withdrawal of additional amount of money from frozen accounts for celebrating the upcoming Eid-ul Fitr.
"We will allow withdrawal of a certain amount of fund in addition to Tk 50,000 from the frozen accounts for meeting Eid expenditure as a special gesture," he said.
According to existing provision, a frozen account holder is allowed to withdraw Tk 50,000 a month for meeting his daily expenditure.
Recently, former prime ministers -- Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia -- sought Tk 0.7 million and Tk 1.0 million from their frozen acco1unts respectively.
Hasina has paid Tk 0.7 million as tax for the current fiscal as NBR relaxed one of her frozen accounts for withdrawal of the amount for payment of tax.
In August, the NBR has frozen all bank accounts of Khaleda and Hasina to see if there is any mismatch in their tax returns and wealth statements.
The NBR is yet to receive any request from frozen account holders for withdrawal of additional money for Eid purpose, but the board will allow withdrawal of a certain amount of cash if they request so, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Badiur Rahman said.
The National Board of Revenue will also consider if any of the frozen account holders want to withdraw money for any emergency purpose, he added.
