FE Report
The FBCCI Reform Implementation Council (FBCCI-RIC) Wednesday said it wants direct elections for the posts of president, vice presidents and directors to bring transparency in the country's chamber body.
The leaders of the FBCCI-RIC said this at a press conference held at the FBCCI auditorium Wednesday.
Helal Uddin, convener of the FBCCI-RIC said that the government should come forward in reforming the election procedures for enhancing the democratic practices in the apex chamber organisation.
The government has postponed the elections of the FBCCI which was due in August.
Helal Uddin, who is also FBCCI director, asked the government to ensure complete reforms in the organisation prior to withdrawal of the embargo on the election.
Under the government order issued in 2002, there are 38 directors for the FBCCI body and 19 were elected from the chamber groups and the remaining 19 were elected from the association groups.
A total of 14 directors, seven from chamber groups and the seven from association groups were nominated by the selected chamber and association groups.
Leaders of the FBCCI-RIC said the present electoral system is a major hurdle to ensure fair and free elections for the chamber body.
