A two-day 24th National Renewable Energy Conference & Green Expo 2024 begins in the city today (Wednesday).
GreenTech Foundation, Bangladesh is organising the event in collaboration with the Institute of Energy, University of Dhaka at the university campus.
Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud is scheduled to inaugurate the event.
This year's theme "Investing in Renewables: Fueling the Climate Revolution" underscores the critical intersection of renewable energy and climate finance, promising invaluable insights and significant discussions, Executive Director and CEO of GreenTech Foundation Lutfor Rahman said at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) on Tuesday.
He said the theme is particularly pertinent given the global urgency to transition to sustainable energy sources and mitigate climate change.
Renewable energy is at the forefront of this transition, and understanding the financial mechanisms that can drive its growth is crucial.
The two-day conference will delve into the opportunities presented by the global climate investment and funding, emphasising on how these can be harnessed to boost the development of renewable energy in Bangladesh.
This focus is vital as Bangladesh seeks to enhance its energy security, reduce carbon emissions, and foster economic growth through sustainable practices.
Exploring and understanding the various financial instruments and investments available to support renewable energy projects, fostering collaboration, showcasing innovations, and promoting policy dialogues are the key objectives of the conference.
The conference is technically supported by BADGE Project of USAID, Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), Bangladesh Solar and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA), and Waterkeepers Bangladesh.
The Forum for Energy Reporters Bangladesh is an associate partner of the conference.
