Gulistan building fire put out

A fire broke out at the top floor of eight-storeyed Khaddar Bazar Shopping Complex near Zero Point of Gulistan area on Friday evening.

The Bangladesh Fire Service & Civil Defence (FSCD) received information about the fire at 5:28 pm, then rushed to the spot. A total of nine fire fighting units were deployed to put out the fire.

Warehouse inspector of the FSCD headquarters' media cell Anwarul Islam confirmed the information.

The fire was brought under control at 6:58 pm.

The cause of the fire and the extent of damage could not be confirmed immediately.

Witnesses said a huge economic loss was feared as the upper floors of the commercial building were used as warehouses for clothing and other materials.

Since the market was closed on Friday, there were no customers or the general people inside. As a result, no casualties were reported in the incident till filing the report at 8.00pm.

The goods in the godown were extensively damaged by the fire.

The Zero Point and adjacent Gulistan areas were covered in black smoke.
